Idiot-Proof Breeding Program

Ok thanks for the help
I keep her with my 2 other sweethearts she is the bully in them all!!! But I think the reason she is holding on is because she is with her best buddy they cuddle and stay less than a foot apart at all times!!!

Post your disabled quail on my DISABLED QUAIL form I would like to see how many different types of defects I get!!!

Really helpfull to people searching for sulotions too!!!

Okay, so I've gotten answers on how to choose my breeding birds and when I need to cross my lines, do I need to identify and track each chick (I see people taking weights at certain points to cull early) or can I just track them by line and make the choice when they hit maturity? Also, how often do I cycle the birds?

Ex: Breed parents, replace parents with best offspring throughout season OR Breed parents, keep best of each hatching aside and then replace at the end of the season.

If I breed my disabled quail do you think her disabilities will pass on to her offspring???
It is probably not wise to breed and hatch eggs from this bird Clawstar. If she was born with this condition, she most very likely will pass down undesirable traits if not the same condition that she has to her offspring.

You can mark baby chicks with felt markers in the head for indentification, using different colors on the heads. Even leg bands work as well. Say...blue is from male X and female Z for example. You will have to keep notes. If you are going for size, you can weigh eggs from breeders and mark them as well before setting. And yes, you will need to cull. You do not want to breed undisireable birds. I kept my unwanted birds in their own quarters so I could tell them all apart as adults.

Cycling in new birds is up to you. I just picked a time in which I felt was along enough to keep breeding. A several generations. Some people breed them longer or shorter. Depends on what you are seeing as results and any undesirable traits you may be getting.
