Well....it IS better than nothing. Especially when your broody decides to leave the nest on the 18th day, calling it quits. Not exactly wanting to resort to the bra-bator, so I took whatever I could find at the nearest
TSC--the very last LG in stock, no turner, no fan. And don't you just hate the itty bitty thermometer that comes with it!?
Even if I have a broody, I still incubate the eggs because they stay cleaner, don't get broken or eaten--then I graft the hatched chicks. Yep, I love the way there's no exposed element for a hatchling to burn itself on. The R-Com 20 is large enough for me since I prefer small batches, as well as the 2 people for whom I hatch eggs.
The other incubators I considered was the
Brinsea Octagon 20 and the Hovabator 1588. I decided against the 1588 because it was styrofoam and I don't like the feel of, or the sound of, my LG when I put the lid on the base. Guess that's a bit OCD.
I hope the original poster picks several choices and reviews the manufacturers' websites carefully. Don't make a rush decision because the better incubators are expensive, but worth it.
I agree, I bought an LG and honestly I have no problem with it. I do occasionally have to adjust the temp but I really don't mind doing that so it's not a problem for me. I don't want to cook my eggs like a set it and forget it crock pot meal I want to be a part of it. So the LG works for me. Honestly I don't think the changes in temp that I have been having are very high or low. it goes from 98.8 to around 100.8 but nothing too high or too low so my eggs are safe and developing well.
If you can afford something more expensive and are okay with spending a lot more to get some added bling then that's cool and you should do it. I am a teacher and have a limited income so the LG is one of the only ones in my price range.
I just wish everyone would stop bashing incubator companies and take each incubator on it's own merit. Each hatch is different and I have seen people posting that they have incubated in their incubators for years and then all of a sudden they get a bad incubation. It happens stop blaming the incubator and just be friendly for God's sake.
