Congrats on your new chicks! I saw that you mentioned wanting to put them in an old pack and play as a brooder..... That is what I did years ago and it worked great! Gives them plenty of room to run around and get away from the heat lamp if they get too hot ... (I didn't see how small your tote is now but just be careful they don't get over heated as it can cause pasty butt .....) the one downside is that the shaving dust goes right through the mesh on the sides of the pack n plays, but the shaving dust gets everywhere no matter what brooder you have :D AS for the light as they start to feather out they will need less and less heat so you will want to raise it up..... They can go in the coop when they are fully feathered at 6 weeks ... Good Luck!
