I am sorry to hear about your losses pc, You and your chickens will be in my prayers, as will your dog that he will recieve guidance in the love of the earth and all things good on earth.

Hugs to the dead chickens and quails, and to the misguided dog too, all things need to know they are loved.

Ok can I be honest, I am just buttering you up so I can come over and do some cuddleing......

I have to disagree. Why is it my responsibility to pay thousands of dollars to securely fence in my acres of land just so a neighbor can let their dogs run the streets. Let the neighbor pay thousands of dollars to keep their dog safe and sound in it's own yard. My property is fully fenced. I free range my birds. I do have some of them in pens and supervise their free range time. I don't understand the mentality that I should have to stop my bird from free ranging on MY land because a neighbor can't control their dogs. Once someones dog crosses that fence line and comes onto my land.....that suckers mine!

It's risk vs reward.

I'm not going to build a coop that is so strong that it will keep all dogs out of it. If a dog has the will, he will find a way. We had a dog that chewed through 2"X12" native timber.

Want to keep your dog safe, keep him away from my chickens.

Want to keep your chickens safe, take care of the predators.

Your logic is, someone breaks into your house, hurts your loved ones, it's my fault......think NOT. But when I get to my gun, it's my fault if they are still breathing.

I agree that it is the our responsibility as chicken owners to protect our chickens.

The threads that have disturbed me the most are the ones about the "two legged predators." The thought of anyone stealing pets or livestock that belong to another person is just crazy, and very sad.

Here is where you become illogical.

You can't put an animal on the same playing field as a human invader.

This thread is going to go down hill fast if it continues to stray from the topic it will be locked very quickly.

That sounds good in theory, shoot anything that moves be it a possum, coon or dog, maybe even a bear, but its YOUR responsibility to PROTECT your flock, and if you choose not to protect, the point is DONT show up here BOO HOOing that something killed your birds suck it up, buy new birds and be foolish enough to think that ALL your neighbours are gonna keep thier dogs locked up

slap of REALITY, neighbours will not keep thier dogs locked up, and you will wind up with a few less chickens if YOU dont protect them, so dont be surprized when they show up dead/missing

I disagree with all points you have made in your sharp criticisms. I tend to think country folks have dealt with rogue animals killing stock since time began and still do. As well, I grew up Country and know for a fact there is no such thing as a "strong enough coop" unless it is a horribly confined area such as a metal building, which is unacceptable to thinking people with backyard flocks.

Your idea that you'd shoot a dog that killed one of your birds would land you in a cage where I live. We have laws governing such things.

The emotional attachments backyard flock holders have for their animals is remarkable, not sickening. All the birds have names, personalities, and quickly become pets.

As for praying for a pet that has been killed, you have no idea who has been posting. It could be a homeschooled child.

What makes you sick might not be what makes anyone else sick who is really raising a backyard flock in the City.

Your fault finding is not in line with the assistance those posters are seeking.

We live in a different world now, and it is not a world where people think animals are simply rote creatures.

Yes, I can. Whether it's an animal or human, it threatens my home, it will pay the consequences.

Did not stray, just tried to show the illogical response to the argument. You can't protect everything you have/love and when something bad happens to them, it's not YOUR fault.
