Maybe the "Old school teacher lady" needs some help with her fence?? Could this be a good time to be a good neighbor and lend a helping hand??

She probably thinks her hound dog is just a lazy quiet dog that won't cause any problems.

Quote i have 10x10 chain linked fence dog kennels for some of my birds,, and YUP their dog proof,

Jim if your kennel wire is attached to the lower frame with chain link ties, believe me they are not dog proof. Some dogs eat chain link ties for breakfast.

Cattle panels with the 4x4 squares covered with smaller wire makes a very nice fence/run. They don't give like the chain link fences do and are a very heavy gauge to prevent bending.
And one more thing as a reminder, chicken wire keeps chickens in, it's not suitable for keeping predators out.

I partially agree. There is the sad fact that if they are determined, they can get what they want. I'm having a problem with my neighbors dogs. I rigged my coop well, as they just watch them... Hopefully they won't tear through chainlink!

PC, Good to see this post. We lost our first EE yesterday. Our fault. Thought all the chickens were penned up before leaving for a Thanksgiving get together, came home checked for eggs and did a head count one chicken missing. Apparently, she was left out. Can't blame our dog. Kids weren't happy but knew things like this can happen. It is part of the life cycle. Accept it and move on.

I did take a good look at the pens, tension bars on all sides and very high quailty construction. I wasn't saying that your construction was poor quality. Just giving another alternative for construction. As you know most kennels have two tension bars per panel with the rest being tied with aluminum clips. They also have rounded corners that leave gaps in both the framework and fence fabric.
And using chain link as perimeter fencing is cost prohibitive if it is done with any quality at all. The cattle panels are 16' long and 52" high, will stand alone but need covering with smaller wire to make them predator resistant. Of course since the price of steel has gone up they are about $22 a panel instead of $12 like they were a couple of years ago.

Big difference between a dog and a criminal. Man can use higher reasoning, dogs can not. To blame a dog for following instinct when it is not trained is silly.
