If anyone has had good success with any specific brand of heating pad for use with a homemade heating "plate" I would greatly appreciate your input.

I have tried two heating plates and two heating pads. All worked briefly and then essentially stopped working. I'm not wanting to use a lamp if I can avoid it. If anyone has had good luck with any particular brand of heating pad, I would greatly appreciate your feedback. I have three weeks before getting my first chicks and have found the heating aspect to be an ongoing frustration. Thank you.

Welcome To BYC

If you want to use a heating pad, find one that stays on continuously. No auto shut off, if the one you have automatically shuts off, it will not work that well.

Manufactures differ and change how they make their product, so you'd really need to read the box/description for each heating pad. Sunbeam used to make just a basic heating pad with no shut off, but it's been a few years since I've purchased any, those that I have still work with no issues.

Heating plates - there's so many on the market now, so I'd go with reviews to see what may work for you and at your budget. Amazon and even feed stores like TSC offer various models.

I've been satisfied with Tractor Supply's Producer's Pride Chicken Coop Brooder and Heater for 10 birds. I've had them for a few years and they've worked fine for me.

Hope you find something that works for you and good luck with your new chicks!

For heating pad I literally buy whatever is the cheapest option on Amazon without an auto shut off. They've all done the trick just fine. What's been the issue with the heating pads you've tried? Burned out, not heating up, etc.?
