If Georgia Seceded from the Union I would

If Georgia seceded I'd happily move back to Savannah...better still..Tybee Island, and raise my fluffbutts on the beach

I'll take on the sand gnats any day as long as I can get back to the ocean!

I'd join you, but I'd have to be charged extra if I was doing mail-order because Georgia would be a new country and I buy stuff online a lot.

Why should a company in a state give up its manufacturing contracts? How is it different from all the companies that manufacture goods in plants based in other countries? It would in effect be the same thing no?

...be very confused. It would be expensive for a piece of land that small to set up infrastructure, and who would they trade with? I can't imagine there would be many good feelings after a war of secession.

Of course, it just wouldn't happen. The U.S. military is way too strong, and one state (probably not even the entire population) against the U.S. military wouldn't be much more than a training exercise for them (which is a good thing).

Now, there you go, Lisa the Teacher, interjecting all that pesky logic into it.

(Then again, a police state isn't a palatable idea for anyone, I suspect. But, secession isn't a war, just a legal separation.)

Quote:
Remember secession is a legal act. It was the war that was not. At the beginning there was a rebellion about where state rights ended an Federal power began. Secession was not even on the table for most of the states till after Lincoln started calling for troops to quell the rebellion. (Federal law prohibits the use of our military to fight its own people no matter what the situation.) It was the act of calling up troops to attack other US citizens that fueled the secession movement. Thats why its called the "Cival War" in the north an "The War of Norther Aggression" in most of the south.

Alot like what is going on now. It would be a hard sell to get congress to allow a war on our home soil now.

As for size an infrastructure... Georgia is bigger than most other countrys in the world an is one of the few states that is still in a self sustainable state. We have a stable population, magor ports an airfields, ample produce ,many factorys an we are the gateway to one of the most visited states in the union....

If any state can do it Georgia can.
