Where are you located? Araucana definitions vary by country. He does look the be a bantam though. A 10 week old LF cockerel would not have that many saddle feathers.
Ill do that,thanks for your
When I bought him they people said he was an araucana, they also sold me a 12 month old sussex which isnt laying & I spoke to them this morning & was told they dont lay all the time only in spring, I got her purely to breed & now feel I was lied to.
I live near Toowoomba Queensland Australia, I have put up 2 photos, not sure of skin color & no feathers on feet,he does have a strange cone on his head..He is not a big bird but has grown some in the past couple of weeks.
Here are two more photo's,maybe you can figure what out what he is, he has his crowing is down pat, he pushes out his chest & neaver leaves the side of the sussex,I cant let him out as he fits through the fencing so when his girl is out he makes strange noises & crows like crazy till she is back in with him,he doesnt care two hoots about the other 3 hens though.
What is a FL? I was told that he is roughly 7/8 months, well Ive had him over a month now & when I bought him they said he was 6/7 months,Im none the wiser as I dont have much experience with chickens as yet so do appreciate any advice.
Yeah he could be a poorer quality Araucana (and I don't mean that there's anything wrong with him - but he doesn't have the beard and muffs that they are supposed to have). Here is a document about the development of the Araucana breed in Australia. http://www.tower.net.au/~creative/ARAUCANA.pdf
Thanks for the link, very good reading. My boy does have a beard, its not as visible in the pics but you can see the tuft on his head if thats what a tuft is? I was told he is about 7/8 months old but Im begining to think he is about 5/6 months..his crowing is full on now & has it down pat.
Hello Ladies & gentlemen... Gues what my boy has finally realised what his duty is I witnessed him doing the DEED...Cant believe that has been the highlight of my year...Thought I had a dud
