We picked up some chicks at the feed store this year, rather than ordering a small shipment ourselves. We arrived at the same time as their order and I looked at the invoice while my kids helped the employee put all the chicks in their cages. They only received three types: barred rocks, easter eggers, and gold sex links. We took two of each. The barred rocks are definitely not barred rocks. What do you think they are?

First one when it was about a week old:

And again about four weeks old:

Second one about 1 week old:

They came from Ideal, so I'd like to think they are actual breeds, not mutts.

Not as exotic as I was hoping for, but as long as they are decent layers (and hens not roosters, of course!), I'm happy. I'll admit I was hoping to read "that looks just like my golden campine" or "my partridge rock". Ah well.

x4 - Mine were slightly different color as day olds, but they are feathering in just like yours, just slight color variations.

It is kind of disappointing to find out you have a "regular" chick, I know

I am doing the same thing, but they are all so cute anyway
