If the coop is big, do they still need a covered roof for run ?

Some how when I went over there this morning, everyone was ok, no blood, no one injured or dead, God forbit. I looked at your BYC page and it looks great. I've been eating my husbands brain for like 3-4 months to re-locate them and get or build them a new run, but he said wait until spring. I will wait, but the run and chicken won't I said to him and I was right. I didn't want to be right, I just wanted the chickens to have a better home .
Where do you live ?

Gosh, I hear you. If you can swing it, let the contractor give you an estimate and see if he uses you and your husband as workers if you can reduce the cost. I was thinking that if you made a roof over the whole thing, solidly built then walled it as a new coop/run in spring that you might feel better about the whole thing. Meanwhile, you may be forced to tarp and patch. I know what it's like to build in winter- we started our first coop in a cold dreary February. But we did have our barn, which made it easier. The other thing about keeping poultry is thinking of your comfort- it's far more motivating to enter a sheltered space, you'll stay longer and do a better job, and the water-hauling is less tedious. Meanwhile, is there any other shelter that could temporarily house the birds?

(I'm in central Nova Scotia in the middle of a three-day blizzard; heading to the barn now to close things down and gather up the feral cats for the night.)

Oh I wish I had another place for them. What comes to my mind as far as temporary place is underneath our deck is a patio. But then how would I cover around it so they'll be protected from the predators ? I can't move their shed or chicken coop now with all that snow either. If I only had few, I would of taken in to the garage until the snow melts, then we would of figure something out by then. But I already have 3 chickens in the garage and 3 ducks along with 19 chickens are out there. This is really stressing me out

I really don't know what to do

GOODNESS GRACIOUS! You Northerners are getting hammered by the snow! (like you didn't know that!) I'm sorry to hear about your problems you're having up there. At least now you have alot to look forward to in the spring. Good luck to all!

We've lived here for 4 years now and last year and this year we have had this much snow. They say that this is not normal well not this much anyways. We learn by experience and mistakes. Let's see how we're going to come out of this

I couldn't sleep all last night, worried about the temporary fence I've put over their run but everyone is ok

I need to get those big tractors with a snow blade. Our new development sure feels like a country farm
