If you aren't hosting, what are you taking along?

The turkey!

My son is nearly 3 yrs old - for size comparison.

Cake (birthday) & dinner rolls.

And a gift basket (wood tray) of home-made soap for the hostess.

This is the first year in EONS that we are not hosting. We will be taking, only 15 miles up the hill, oodles of:

tart cranberry sauce
savory stuffing with figs
seared green beans with soy sauce and rice vinegar
vegan pumpkin pie for the goshdarned vegan, and
pecan pies, several, with an egg custardy base.

But there will be no watching of football, which is really all I ask of this lovely holiday. Many children, many chickens, good conversation.

What will we be eating, you ask?
Probably too much.

Love.

We're going to my SIL's SIL's! I just made a "Crazy Apple Pie" and a Butternut Squash Cassarole. My DH works at a bakery so we're also bringing the bread!

"Crazy Apple Pie" - Quick and easy!

3 to 4 Apples
1 Tbsp Sugar
1 tsp Cinnamon
1 Stick Butter or Margarine
1 C Flour
1 C Sugar
1 egg, beaten

Fill pie plate 2/3 full with peeled and sliced apples. Mix sugar and cinnamon together and sprinkle over apples. Melt butter. Mix butter, flour, sugar and egg together. Spread over apples. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes.

This has no bottom crust and is like an apple pie with a big sugar cookie on top. Somehow it still slices like a pie! I get requests for this every year and since it's so easy I'm more than happy to oblige!

Ooooo, you guys! That all sounds yummy.

We're taking:

A butternut squash and goat cheese gratin
French tomato pumpkin soup
Apple/black cherry chutney
Mango/mixed berry sauce (like cranberry sauce)
Apple crisp
A salad with mixed baby greens, pears, gorgonzola, and candied walnuts with a blueberry ginger vinegrette
Lots of wine

We have a few vegetarians in the group, so hopefully there will be enough interesting side dishes for them. I just hope no one makes tofurkey!

Going to my folks and taking pumpkin pie, cherry pie, deviled eggs, and fixing for greenbean casserole (will make if needed). My brother, his wife, and an aunt will all be coming too!
