One year, a minor kitchen remodel resulted in removing one window, replacing an other window, installing vinyl siding on the entire house.
Then, there were the 2 maple trees and a fir tree that were close to the house and shop. A bit too close for comfort, and too big for us to take down on our own. An estimate for their removal ballooned into an 8K job of removing all the trees on the East and North side, and clearing a good portion between garden and road on SW side of the property... and earth work to level the aftermath of the carnage, resulting in doubling our available lawn/gardening space.
