If you buy meat from the store, how the heck do you think it got there

Ugggh. A woman at my youngest son's preschool asked me why I keep chickens and I explained that we keep some for eggs and others for meat. "why would you kill them?" "why don't you just go to payless?" "YOu mean the cute little fuzzy chicks?" yes lady, I mean chicks that you see in the feed store and think are cute and then convienently forget that last night's KFC was in fact a live chicken at one point. If you want to ask me an intelligent question about why I choose to raise my own chickens for meat, that's great. If you want to be convienently self righteous about killing (unless it's prepackaged) go away.

i guess they think that violence by proxy is better...

WHATever. i was telling the story of our 'rooster day' to some neighbors - they laughed when i told them our littlest rooster was DE-licious! but i'm not sure they'll be over for dinner at our house anytime soon
;-)

I have a friend like that. She is utterly against my family butchering chickens, hunting, etc. She eats meat, by the way. What she (and others like her) don't seem to understand is that the chicken at Sentry was in fact a live bird like ours at home. Then they electricute them, slit their throats, chop off their heads, and pull out their guts before offering them up to the public as food.

Some people just don't get it.

I know so many people like this it frightens me. Most people have no idea where their food comes from. They think it's so mean to raise animals for meat in your own backyard. If they only knew how much better these animals have it than those produced commercially...

Hmmmm......... and what did the people do one hundred years ago? Did they just drop into their local grocery store and have the butcher wrap up a nice looking chicken from the cooler??? We are such a lazy society when it comes to our food.

How many here remember when you went to the store to buy a chicken and came home with a live one?
