Only in deep southern Lousiana, they speak Cajun french, but not in the business place, unless it is a family business.

Gracious why do so many people think that US history with war started in 1941??

Spanish American war ring any bells??

Mexican American war?? May not have had me in PA speaking Spanish but I think Arizona etc would have looked quite different.

And there is that whole French indian thing.

The early years of our nascent nation were fraught with times when any given territory could have gone one way or another. And many many countries contemplated economic invasions (would have had the same effect, why do you think all japanese students must learn english?) as we finished up the civil war.

The joke is: A person who speaks 3 languages is called tri-lingual
if they speak 2 languages they are bi-lingual
if they speak 1 language they're American.

I love this line deb I really do, but we'd all better get busy learning mandarin.

I have WHAT in my yard? :

Great quote Debi, I'm not going to argue with folks on Veteran's Day though,, my entire family has devoted our lives to making sure this Country stays free enough any <cough cough> citizen of the County they have fought and died for can express their <cough gag> opinions. Whether or not they are worth voicing.

LONG LIVE THE USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Land of the free and home of the brave.

Well there are always the what ifs. Like what if we didn't win WWII? German or Japanese would probably suit. Not talk.g the wrong way, so I say thanks to the veterans for giving us our civil liberties and freedoms.

Ok in all seriousness I am always 100% deeply indebted to our Veterans.....Period... No matter if I agree with or disagree with the conflict. It has no bearing on my admiration of those that serve!

I do however take the bumper sticker wrong. Yes English is our first language, and yes I do feel immigrants should learn English... However we have a long proud history of being a nation of immigrants, from all over the world. Keep in mind you are all immigrants too! (Unless you are Native American) As your ancestors had pride in their language and had difficulties adjusting so do the newcomers of today..............

Speaking English does not make you an American, It is seizing the opportunity in the land of opportunity, contributing your sweat and toil to building this great nation.

I see those that serve or have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation, having done so to keep our doors open to take in those that seek freedom from oppression and Tierney. To give those willing to work hard a place they can call home. Being judged on their contributions to society. Not how well they speak English....

(I am a first Generation American... I know how it was for my dad, when he immigrated here from Germany in the Pre-WWII years... It was tough.. He got picked on big time over his accent, he got in fights nearly every day, because he had an accent! He went on to enlist at 17, and was one of the Vets we are honoring today.

In the big picture aren't most of us immigrants to North America?
Almost all of us have ancestors that spoke a language other than English.
North America is a melting pot. I think diversity is a good thing.

People forget the enemy that we were fighting was somebodies child too. Some Vets have a really hard time, still, about having to kill a human but I think it was more about survival than hate.
