If you had it to do over again, what would you change about your coop/run?

I'm really happy with my 10'x16' Woods Coop. The things I would do over:

• Run a Water and Electric line to the coop immediately. Currently my coop is about 50 yards from my house and I haven't run water or electric yet. Will definitely need that before winter. Carrying 5 gal waterers 50 yards is no fun....

• My run is 40' x 48'. I would have broken that into 2 separate runs - one off of each front side of the coop - instead of the one large run. I have aviary netting over the top of the run but it's a pain on a run that size.

And my flock of 14. Ended up with one boy but he's pretty docile so far so he's staying:

I personally would of screwed in 2’x8’ 3/4” plywood around the top of the walls before I put the roof rafters on top. The I would of screwed down hardware cloth on the inside of the coop along with welded steel and left the outside rafters open for ventilation. This is on my Aframe coop. But honestly.. a woods coop for me is the way to go

I would have added the pop door right away so there wouldn't have been this adjust period we are dealing with now. Otherwise, I'm also very lucky. No run, they get the whole yard, but my coop is walk in and stays nice and dry even with monsoons.

Great thread! I'm on my 3rd coop. Each ones been a little bigger & a little better as I get a little wiser. My birds don't usually use the run, but still I wish I'd built in two pop doors & two runs on opposite sides, instead of just the one. I also wish we'd ran electricity in. I still might add another, taller roost. We have two roosts over a poop board, but some of the girls like to sleep in the rafters. An additional roost in between the roosts & the rafters might make it easier for them to get up & down & of course more roost space would cut down the bedtime bickering whenever newbies move in. Having solar panels for the pop door & a water spigot on the outside would be a dream come true.
