But they will kill my chickens in a heartbeat

I have an 8 year old standard poodle "Bosco" that is great around the girls. When they are out free ranging- he just watches them- finding them as fascinating as I do. He'll even come whining to me if one of the chickens gets somewhere he doesn't think they should be- pretty funny. This photo is when they were only little (in the background) now that they are full grown, I should take another photo of them together.

I have a Rhodesian Ridgeback mix who never messes with the chickens but I also have a Siberian Husky and a Husky mix who would love to kill the chickens. Huskies have a very high prey drive anyway so I wouldn't trust them with chickens. It's not their fault... it's just in their nature.

BTW, I have cats too and they don't even pay attention to the big chickens. I wouldn't let them around the chicks of course.

This is Pita, my Blue Heeler/Springer Spaniel mix, who is great with all of my birds. She goes in the barn with me and doesn't even look at the turkeys. However she does yipe for me to throw an egg for her, she thinks they are balls, lol. The little guy is Ruger our Chihuahua/Dachsund mix who I could not trust alone with the birds for a second. He is only 10lbs but he tried to chase my big Tom turkey. I just don't let him in the barn or run with me anymore.

This is Tony my huge Yorkie, I don't really trust him either he has chased the chickens a couple of times. He is a great rodent hunter though we used to see mice and prairie dogs all over the property when we first moved in and now we don't see any.

We have a yellow lab named Sadie and she's great with the chickens and ducks!! She hasn't bothered them since we got them when they were 1 week old. She's also awesome with the kids, my 3 year old would be lost without her. They're best buddies.

Awwwwwww...... how sweet! Gypsy, a Doberman I had many years ago adopted a litter of abandoned kittens. She'd wash them with her big tongue and let them crawl all over her--even with their little claws digging into her skin and one chomping on her toes or the nub of her tail. She'd watch me feed them with a bottle. When it was time for them to go to their own homes she would growl at prospective adopters--I had to intervene and pick up the kitten they wanted to see and hand it to them so she would allow it. I loved that dog
