If you have a dog.....

I have a yellow lab and a large red mutt with a lot of herder in him. I wouldn't trust either of them around my birds. Lucky for me, our yard is large enough that a third is fenced off for the dogs (who are mostly inside anyway) and the other 2/3 is for garden and chickens.

Irish Wheaten Terrier. Very good around the chickens! She loves to chase, and catches, voles and moles and ground squirrels, but leaves the chickens alone, esp. after she was chased by a few of them!

I have three dachshunds, a sheltie and a Great Pyrenees...they are all wonderful with my chickens....they have all been raised together....even though the dogs are inside and chickens outside....the Pyr is just a pup but he has done really well with them...he knows they belong at the house

I have a rottweiler female, doesn't bother the chickens unless they all make a mad dash for the pen, even then she just runs after them and sniffs them. I have a coonhound puppy here also that has been around them since she was born but for some reason thinks they are a chewtoy, so she is not allowed out when they are free ranging.

Toooo....Tired....To. Read the whole thread.. So I don't know if it's already been mentioned or not, but photoshop that 4 wheeler out of the picture and if looks like you have a MONSTER saint that towers over everything, the kids sand box, the "full grown" chickens.. The dog looks massive compared to those chicks

Black Lab. Our two don't mind them. But I recomend DO not get a Black Labrador with free-range chickens. Black Labs are hunting dogs, just unless you believe they WILL be good.

LOL, that would be funny, he is a hudge boy, biggest pup i ever raised and he's a big goof sometimes.
I have to remind myself he is still a pup when working with him, but he's a great boy to be so young, he's just now making the rounds by himself , i figured around a year like my pyrenesse.

My dog Evie is a mutt but she is the best dog I have ever had. She loves all my animals and is very good with my chickens and even my bunny. She grew up around them and has nver ran after them or anything. The best thing about her is that she is not only good with all my animals but she also good at portecting them. She has killed coons, coyotes, opossums, minks, and even some skunks. Nothing that eats chickens gets by her.
Here she is playing

I have a Rottie, Corgi, and a Minature Schnauzer. The Rottie and Corgi are great around the chickens and my Rottie keeps them out of the areas they aren't supposed to be in. On the other hand the Schnauzer is a confirmed chicken killer, he has killed 9 and isn't allowed anywhere near the birds.

We also had a yellow lab that was fine with the birds and my neighbors yellow lab leaves them alone even though he is NEVER kept in a kennel or tied. He has the run of the neighborhood.

Yeah, it's something about those really big dogs.. They are always goofy klutzes. I had a big 'ol bluetick boy that was about 7 or 8 years old when we got him.. He was probably nearly 100 pounds, people were scared to death of him. But he was the cutest and most goofy thing ever

We only had the poor Buster for a month and a half though.. He was an abandoned hunter that animal control caught on top of a mountain, we took him to be neutered and he was eat up with cancer.. He bled out
