If you have to have a permit to keep quail

can you sell eggs for eating without them having a permit number? We bought our A&Ms from our local feed store & our coturnix eggs from someone local to hatch out. Neither asked for my license number, nor gave me theirs. When we were at our ag extension the other day I had a couple questions about my quail & found out that in NC you have to have a license for quail. I called the wildlife commission & I have to have the license no matter what kind/amount of quail I have. I also have to provide my license number when selling hatching eggs or live quail. So how do I sell quail eggs for consumption?

If you have found out it is the law to have a license to even own the quail, then I would strongly recommend that you get a license. That way you won't have any issues with selling the eggs and won't get in trouble for owning the quail. It's a win / win situation.

I have the form printed out... I just found out about it & am getting it in the mail now I would have done it before getting the quail had I known. I wish the feed store would have told us

The ag extension person also told us about spot checks. It sure would have stunk if we didn't know about the permit before a spot check!

ETA: I guess we won't be selling them for eating eggs then?

it will come back quickly, I think ours took about a week. We are on the radar now, they send us a whole packet to renew ours. game bird, egg seller, retail seller- the green card.
and in typical NC government you can't pay the total bill for the permits. you have to pay each one seperate. lol

I don't really know about the eating eggs, that would be one to ask "them" and see if you can get a ruling, since it's a gray area. Let us know what they say if you check into it. We don't sell any quail or eggs, lots of people offer to buy but when you talk permit that's it, no sale. lol

I do not know about your state. In Illinois you need a permit for selling eggs.
So I need both a gamebird permit and an egg permit.

Oh well.... guess we can eat them ourselves. I doubt we'll sell many hatching eggs around here if someone else needs a license.

Technically what folks do with them after they have them in there possession is out of our control right? Hatch them....Eat them....
As long as they are advertised as hatching eggs.....
