If You Have Turkeys....

So if I check with the extension office and we do not have a problem with black head up here is it fairly safe to let a turkey run with my chickens (if they get along of course)? I hope I don't sound ignorant I'm just trying to fully understand. I only have 1/3 acre so I can't seperate them by much. So if letting them run togeter isn't possible I'll just have to forgo the turkey

As far as big preditors go... My coop shares a common side with the dog kennel and they keep anything like foxes away and alert us to any stray dogs in the yard. Plus the run is mad from 6' kennel pannels so it's pretty secure... unless they dig under.

Thanks for all the help. I'm thinking of maybe a Burbon Red Turkey???

Yes if you don't have the blackhead problem then you can certainly go ahead and let them all run together.

in comparison to chickens, how much do turkeys eat? Double? Tripple?

Well every breed and bird is different. On the average a meat type will have a fcr of 3:1, On the average Heritage Turkeys will have around a 4:1. they are bigger then chickens, so they will of course eat alot more. You can figure on the average that one turkey from hatch to butcher will eat about 80lbs of feed, hens a little less.
