Today I came home for lunch and was going to grab any eggs as I won't be home until very late tonight.

I opened the nest box to find my fave hen all snuggled in the nest, apparently working on "doing the deed," when she shot me an evil look and hopped out of the nest and went out into the run. I felt bad for disturbing her! She looked at my like I was peeking at her in the shower.

What I wanted to know is, will she come back later and lay her egg? Or did I miss out on my egg from her today?

other people will probably reply with answers but i am fairly new to this, we had a chicken snake and i went more often for eggs. i had stopped doing that and then found the snake~ so i went back to going often. they will go back if they are disturbed from my experience

Yes, she will come back and lay. My hens are always getting off the nest for something, but they always went back to the nest after awhile to lay.

Ah yes... I know that "look" well. I'm not a mom yet, but I don't imagine I'd want an in house welcoming committee watching me give birth!

She'll go back to her spot and lay her egg.

It is quite alright to check for eggs with the hen still on the nest. Talk softly to her and let her know you are looking for eggs. If you do this on a regular basis all the hens will be use to this. It avoids broken and frozen eggs if you are in a cold climate. Sometimes hens fighting over the same nest will break eggs and if you collect often you will save alot eggs. Hens will really become use to you if you spend enough time near them or in the coop.
