If you were told you could only raise ONE breed, what would it be?

I could not pick just one, so don't ask me too.

I think my first choice would be bantam Cochins but an extremely close second is OEGB. Course if its for egg production it would have to be my RIRs.

buff orpingtons
i have three left from my original six,
i just got 7 more chickies......
so right now i got ten

i love them
i love their personalities, their shape, their feathers, their size, their brown eggs ( each one lays a slightly different color egg....i know who's who's)

who wouldn't love golden chickens?

they are so wonderfully homey

vi

and muscoy ducks.........they grow on you......i would not trade them either.....and i am totally amazed that mine have blue eyes

If I could only have one breed........Without question Id have my Sumatra. They are BEAUTIFUL. They have great temperaments. And lay a medium sized egg.

I sort of have this little problem with authority.

I couldn't choose just one. However, if you really pushed me, I could pick two. My red standard cochins are gorgeous and wonderful layers. My dominiques are great layers, too. They are sweet little lap chickens to boot.
Here's a picture of one cochin & two dominiques with my Andalusian roo taking his spot front & center.

If anyone ever wondered WHY there are so many different breeds of chickens, they only have to look at this thread to find their answer!
