Illinois...

I'm back!
It had been a week or possibly two since I gave been on BYC. I have been crazy busy again with work, family, life, etc. Chickens are doing great but wishing the weather would finally turn around so they could maximize their time foraging in the lawn and mulch beds. They have been very happy in their shed coop. The quail are still indoors in or heated sunroom. I really wasn't too move them into the cages in the shed coop, but it's been too cold to even finish building the cages let alone to put them out there. There's 45 I think... so hard to count them! They will be 8 weeks old next week, so I will be putting most of the males in freezer camp once I get back from a business trip next week. That should cut back on the feed and mess. Oh the mess... there are feathers all over the sunroom floor every day. The birds are in an 8 ft long cage I built, but the feathers just float all over the place. And 45 birds pooping... there's a regular trip to the compost pile to dump a bucket full of poop.

@Molpet how are your turkeys? Any luck with eggs just yet? I have an itch to get the incubator running again.
