I did some google searching, and I think that the Tri-K Pidgeon and Bantam Club is hosting a swap at the Kankakee fairgrounds on September 1st. I cannot find more information though.

Its always the first Sunday in ,,, April, May, June,September, and October. They skip July and August most likely because of the HEAT on the animals.
There are other farm related sellers there. In Spring, there are nursery stock garden related items.
I have purchased chickens there 3 or 4 times in the past.
You can find goats, as well as dogs available at times.

Kankakee county passed an ordnance ..no dogs at the swap for sale or on the property when the swap is on.
PETA type people on the county board wanting to shut the swap down too

DW driving home this evening when already dark seen a fox. (Melrose Park)
She was not sure what it was. Fox or coyote. We have both, but not many.
Her description determined it was one of these.
Not actual pix of one she saw, but here for display purposes.

During the day, in front yard next to the street, I found some unusual scat. It did not look like a traditional one left by a dog. Pretty much most peeps walking their dogs do pick up their pets droppings. This one was "color" almost black. Coyote or fox,,,, a possibility. I will research into that a lil more. MY CHICKENS ARE SAFE.

Foxes I have seen have been way smaller than a coyote. Perhaps I have just seen young ones? I didn't think foxes get very big.

The problem with having a fox is that you can come across them both night & day...... and he/she keeps coming back. The coyotes visit often & try to dig around the coop. I see their attempts & footprints but rarely catch them in the act since they prefer to visit us at night. The 1st time we saw the fox it was 8:00pm (chicken bedtime routines). The next day it came at 6:00pm and then next day 4:30pm and 7am. It varied its schedule so many times so it was difficult to predict. Humans only made it run about 50' - just out of reach. It didn't even leave the yard. Only our dog could scare it off the property. Then, for several months, the chickens could only go outside when the dog was out with them. (The fox would return whenever the dog was inside!) That's why I'm really hoping our new dog will be good with the chickens. I know the fox will come back because a few neighbors have already lost chickens to it.
