I set some orp eggs. (One serama egg somehow got under them, so I marked it too...... but I'm cutting the hens off! No more eggs!)
3 eggs are from Glow & Cupcake (They're sold now, so I set the eggs instead of eating them.) The other eggs are from my lav and laced pullets. Maybe one egg from Big Blue. Right now they're all mixed into one flock, so I won't know who the father is until hatch. Since the boys are orps, they'll at least be purebred. I certainly wouldn't mind trading. It's not like I need more orpingtons. Of course, who knows if it will be a good hatch. Most are pullet eggs and 2 of the 3 broody hens are 1st timers.
My 1st school is requesting hatching eggs in Feb, so I want to make sure my roos are doing their job. That's my "official" reason for letting the hens have some eggs and what I told DH.
Mr Nice Guy is gone. Potential is finally crowing and now bothering the hens in the familiar way all young cockerels do. Hopefully he'll learn some technique soon and stop all the chasing, flapping & squawking. I think Mr Nice Guy may have been too intimidating, so the young lav boy never tried before. He's making up for lost time! I'm hoping Mr Wonderful steps up and keeps Potential in check. Although the same age as Potential, Wonderful's son is still immature and has absolutely no cockerel instincts yet.
