Illinois...

Male tail feathers curl up. I think these are girls.

Do they quack or make a raspy quackish sound? Girls quack....loudly. Boys are quieter.
I'm confident at least one is a male. The tail on the second one is a bit upright, and at four months old I wouldn't be surprised it ended up being male; however, I am leaning towards two females also. Either way, I decided I'm willing to take them in and sent a message. :)

So what are you having? Potentially selling any? They would hatch just in time to trade for quail... :)
I set some orp eggs. (One serama egg somehow got under them, so I marked it too...... but I'm cutting the hens off! No more eggs!)

3 eggs are from Glow & Cupcake (They're sold now, so I set the eggs instead of eating them.) The other eggs are from my lav and laced pullets. Maybe one egg from Big Blue. Right now they're all mixed into one flock, so I won't know who the father is until hatch. Since the boys are orps, they'll at least be purebred. I certainly wouldn't mind trading. It's not like I need more orpingtons. Of course, who knows if it will be a good hatch. Most are pullet eggs and 2 of the 3 broody hens are 1st timers.

My 1st school is requesting hatching eggs in Feb, so I want to make sure my roos are doing their job. That's my "official" reason for letting the hens have some eggs and what I told DH.

Mr Nice Guy is gone. Potential is finally crowing and now bothering the hens in the familiar way all young cockerels do. Hopefully he'll learn some technique soon and stop all the chasing, flapping & squawking. I think Mr Nice Guy may have been too intimidating, so the young lav boy never tried before. He's making up for lost time! I'm hoping Mr Wonderful steps up and keeps Potential in check. Although the same age as Potential, Wonderful's son is still immature and has absolutely no cockerel instincts yet.

Keep me posted. I'll be interesting in seeing what hatches and hearing what your thoughts are on their feather color/pattern. I will not have quail chicks until Feb 29th. I could always trade adults instead if you wish, but chicks are the fun part and I bet your son would love to try to tame them. :)

My blk/lav split pullet has a slightly darker eggs with light spots on them.
