@Faraday40
Do we want spitz eggs for the school? I had two laying, but now it seems only one is. Either spitzer or my other pullet. Not sure which one. Other girls are crossing their legs.
@Faraday40 take 'em! Take 'em! Take 'em! Then I can try to negotiate for a spitz if they hatch. :oops:
DW likes them...

And 6+ weeks later my pullets are laying these pitiful things.....View attachment 2014323
😭
That's not too bad. Mine may be about the same. They're small but dense. The hen eggs are HUGE and we're used to that. When I get egg cartons from people, I like the deeper ones. When using the reg ones, I often can't close the carton because the orp hens' eggs are just too big. LOL

@homeschoolin momma and @Molpet
I'll definitely want some spitz and turkey eggs for the schools this year. The 1st school is starting in mid Feb. (chicken eggs would start Feb 25, turkey on 18th) If you have any to donate then let me know. That teacher's dad has a farm up in Northern IL, so she sends the chicks to him. (Some of the pullets come back to the school coop after Easter break, and the students care for the school chickens. It's so much fun!) She has a Brinsea incubator, and gets a great hatch rate, so it's good if you want to check fertility. If there are any chicks you want back, we could do that, but I find it easier to just keep the photos and let her make all the arrangements for the chicks. The rest of the schools start late March through April, but I didn't plan out the exact dates yet. Those are the ones I get back, so I end up with a chick overload in May.

:barnie The turkeys haven't started laying yet, mine usually don't start until march

but you are more than welcome to them

Thank you both for sharing. I won't need a lot, but the kids enjoyed the variety. Incubating only light brown orp eggs is slightly boring. Last year's kids really loved the wide variety - silkies, seramas, orps, spitzes, leghorns, and of course the big-eyed poults.

@homeschoolin momma If you have a blue-green egg that would be awesome. Tyrion is 7 yrs, so her laying cycle is growing shorter every year.

If your Cream Crested Legbars are laying, what would the likely offspring be?
Legbar-ington (basically giant Easter Eggers)
or Spitz-bar (imagine the crazy crests!)

@BReeder! I don't mean to leave you out of the fun. If you want to throw in 2-3 ducks eggs in the spring hatch, I know the classes would love them. However, I'm personally not a duck person and would need a home ready to take them about a week after hatch.
