Illinois...

Puppy would have been great for them.😭 Although seriously, I still dont like Blackbeards tail feathers (he looks too american orp), and technically, I dont need him as i can just breed wonkys brother to the blacks and get black lav split that i need.....
Think about it and let me know. They really don't care about the breed since the purpose is protection, but I know they like the big gentle ones. Their last boy was a big Bielefelder.

Blackbeard isn't mean, but he's good at his job. He doesnt like to be held or cuddled. He wont chase people, but will run up to 5 feet of you looking for treats. He does crow. Low crow, but still fairly loud. Usually in the morning. I wouldnt have a problem letting him go as long as he goes to a good home.

I'm debating giving them Mr. Wonderful if they can wait long enough. (I need him for breeding until his son (Awesome) can take over..... which may be another month or 6. He doesn't even crow yet!) Unfortunately, their poor hens were too afraid to leave the coop today without a rooster. Not sure if they can wait until Awesome matures.

Any chick? :fl

Is the far right from a copper maran?
I would love to add one of those to my collection.
These are from my welsummer, I got her last year from Sunset Barn out near Prophetstown. The colors are quite varied. But she's an awesome layer!

Our Welsummer is a very good layer too. (She won Best in Show for egg production in DuPage Co. last summer!) Not a friendly bird, though. My Leghorns are less skittish. Besides eggs, a few good things however are that she's very hawk savvy, gets much of her food free ranging, and has great camouflage.
