Illinois...

I added some more water to cups & sponge.
While doing this, I accidentally spilled some.... and now the humidity is up to 65%. :lau:idunno

I debated turning off the fan but decided to keep things as is. I'm mostly worried about the turkeys. I remember they did better with higher humidity at the end.

So I started the turkey eggs on a Thurs morning, so this Thurs will be day 28. However these usually hatch a bit early. @Molpet do you think they are likely to hatch tomorrow? (Day 26)

Then I started my orpington eggs on a Tues, so my goal is to have them also hatch tomorrow. Likewise the serama eggs were started one day later since they're always early.

Already I predict temps may be running a bit cooler since I can only see one pip. Perhaps the big hatch day will be on Wednesday. I guess it will give me an extra day to set up the big brooder.

On your top setup it appears those tall cups don't have a lot of surface area. It's too bad you don't have a way of setting in a wire shelf to hold wider pans of water above the eggsView attachment 2111394
That's something I may be able to make. I've used the tall cups to prevent chicks from falling into them. (Then put pads inside to wick the water up and allow it to evaporate.) Adding another level may help if it doesn't block the air flow.

Never even saw the pip. Surprise! I've got an early bird. A lav orp.
(Humidity went up to 72% as it hatched)

Yes I have early hatching turkeys

I'm mucking out the pond today... I drained it out over the front lawn (downhill away form the house) and the grass seems to have filtered the water withing the ~30ft from the end of the 2" hose to the sidewalk. I was shocked. The water was coming out of the hose brown due to all the muck in the bottom and and then clear by the time it reached the sidewalk, which didn't take long. From there it went through the lawn in the parkway, onto the curb and down a to the sewer a few houses over. The muck in the bottom has not been so easy to get rid of though. I'm filling (4) 5-gallon buckets, climbing out of the pond using a ladder and dumping the buckets into a wheelbarrow, and then rolling it across the yard to a spot we decided to dump it all. It mostly gravel, but it the consistency of fresh wet concrete with thanks to all the muck (rotted leaves, poop, feathers, mud, etc.). I've decided the gravel is not going back in. It worked well for the koi and goldfish, but the bio-load from the ducks just clogs the gravel. To help with that bio-load, I'm finally building the pond filtration system too. That's going to be a project in itself for later this week.
