@Faraday40

Do the legbars from you possibly carry the white gene?

If those Legbars are from the eggs I gave her for the project, then there is the remote possibility they could have the white gene, but I would not gamble on it... They came from my communal Legbar grow out pen that had 8 Legbars (4 hens/4 roos)... Of those 8 birds 4 were Rees so no white gene there, the other 4 were a mix from previous Greenfire imports and all came from brand new layer and unknown East coast lineage rooster... The lady I got them from had no idea if the brand new layer or the rooster she paired it with carried the white gene, but she did confirm some of her birds in her flock carried the gene so it's possible that the new layer did or that the new rooster from the East coast she paired it with could have been a carrier as well, but those are simply possibilities not confirmed...

What he said.

I can only add that they're cute.

6 months ago I would have jumped at the white carrying Legbar, but I had a real good breeding season this year with my white hen and split roo(s) resulting in 4 white roos and 4 white hens in addition to their white mother, so I have plenty to line breed with right now and see what happens...

Oh wow!!! Okay well it would be super super cool if I was able to breed some more white sports regardless if you @MeepBeep

Get too many and need to unload some let me know. I have fallen so in love with this breed and I can't wait to have my own birds to breed. Wonderful! Any idea what color the legbar pullet from you will lay?

Yay!!!

Not sure what you are asking, are you asking about egg color? All my Legbars lay the typical American Legbar blue egg with a slight hint of mint green that is only noticeable if you hold it next to a true blue layer...

My goal with my line of white sports is to work on the egg color right now, since the likelihood of White Legbars ever being a breed perfection standard anytime soon in the US is slim to none so appearance at least for me is not the priority in the whites...

Not sure where I'm going with my normal Creams right now, since my seed stock is so varied I can head pretty much any direction right now, probably going to work on trying to work out the floppy comb that many of the ones in the US have... My so called 'Canadian' CL line don't have a perfectly upright comb but it sure puts my Rees line combs to shame in it's ability to stand up...

That's interesting every image I think I've seen has the floppy combs I thought they were normal. Very cool! Also yess I was asking about egg color I know there can be much more variation in the egg for in the American lines.

I would love to see some pics of your white sports if you don't mind? I'm also incredibly curious about what yours are like temperament-wise?

It's a flaw in the limited gene pool imports into the US especially a problem in the Rees line... The proposed standard in the US says the combs are supposed to be "straight and upright" so it's something that has to be worked out of any show line... I'm sure there are dedicated breeders that have nice combs and are working with them, but the run of the mill stuff being sold to the public is still mostly 'hatchery grade'...

If you look at the medal winning roosters in the UK they have a very upright comb...

There is actually more egg color variation in the UK, the UK standard allows for blue, green or even olive colored eggs... In the US all the imports are pretty much the same blue with a slight touch of green color...

I will see what I can do, most are still young and the single adult hen might be a little roughed up right now as she is in the general population with too many roosters that I have not gotten rid of yet...

I hope she gets some takers for those nice birds. I don't do facebook, but I know there are a few local communities where you may be able to get more exposure. I think ChicagoClucker started one.

I am already putting messages out there. Trying to help @Junibutt. I wish I could take the choc. cuckoo, but too many roos already.
Thanks everyone who is trying to help. I really appreciate it.
@MeepBeep glad to hear that your white legbar project is doing well. Will love to see some pics sometime.
