Is it sad that I'm tempted to go buy eggs just for the cartons?

....that is a good price for cartons!!

Seriously, You could hard boil the eggs & feed them to the chickens for extra protein. 2 of mine are already beginning to molt.

Still hard to imagine we'd ever see those prices after last year's eggs shortage.

Wow okay yeah that's a pretty awesome price. We have a ton(thanks to family and friends-and an uncle that bought a house with over 80 egg cartons in the garage) and don't know the store or I'd have to think about that one too! I agree get some and feed the hard boiled eggs back to your flock.

Some of our flock may already be starting molt as well although I'm not sure. Even a couple girls that I thought had molted earlier in the year, but perhaps not. This will be our first certain large fowl adult molt this fall and I'm hoping everyone will be okay.

Our three OEGB I'm 99.9% certain have already molted.

Walmart has an incredible price match policy, just show them that ad and chances are even if it's not a real 'local' place they won't even notice or care... Heck most of the Walmarts around me don't even ask to see the ad on small items like this as long as you have something that appears to be an ad on your phone that you are asking them to match...

That is actually how I found out about the price, there were three people in front of me last night at Walmart price matching things and they all had eggs, and even though that ad says limit 2 they all price matched 4 at Walmart...

I haven't seen that price on eggs since maybe when I was a child. Crazy cheap. I am in charge of the egg toss at our block party which was last weekend. I thought I found the deal of the year at Mariano's 50 cents a dozen. You have me beat!

And the molting season has begun over here too. My barred rock has lost her tail and there are plenty of feathers scattered about everywhere. The good news is my chocolate and blue orps that I separated are growing their feathers back, Yay. They needed a break from my roo Mick!

Adding: I have a couple of pure black orpington cockerels from heirloom they are going to be beautiful.

Will post pics if interest.

I would just like to say a HUGE thank you to you both and you too Meep Beep for the opportunity to get the chicks for you guys! I'm so very in love with them already they're darling and so sweet and I couldn't be more thrilled. Thank you both and your families for making this happen. I know it was more of a strain on you guys than I had realized and I'm eternally grateful.

I will get some pics and continue to post them as the chicks grow so that you can see them. :)

Her brother is smooth. Then the other pair is opposite. The boy is fizzled and the girl is smooth. Anybody want the second pair?

Also, someone from the neighborhood is selling his group of Ayam Cemani's. 1 cockerel and 4 pullets 3 months old. Let me know, I will put you in touch.

Newbie from Chicago (Northside). I volunteer at a roof top garden, and we have a chicken coop with two chickens. I'm new to chicken care. I have a couple of Amazon parrots at home. Have helped a family of geese survive and relocate this past spring

You're welcome.

We had a great mini vacation. The weather did not cooperate on the drive up. Never knew rural roads could be so dark & the T-storms Fri night made visibility almost zero. (5 hr drive ended up taking 8 hrs!) We fell in love with central Wisconsin & got to visit a 5th generation organic dairy farm. (Didn't get to milk a cow, but got to pet some calves.) DH & I (an electrical engineer & a science teacher) enjoyed seeing how the milking equipment, storage, cleaning, etc. is done. The kids enjoyed playing with all the kittens & of course ended up teaching others about the various breeds of chickens we own. We also were not far away from many Amish farms. We looked out my friend's window to see a road with horse & wagon go by. A few min later several bikers drove by. We visited a mini zoo, walked through a fun state park, ate cheese curds, & of course had several hours in the car to enjoy the scenery. It was unexpectedly slow on the return trip. Traffic was crawling from the Dells until well past Madison. I suppose many other families took WI vacations this weekend.
