@Faraday40 we are anxiously waiting for pics from your hatch. As I had mentioned, since you were setting eggs, I decided to set some of my own. Some of them are due on Friday night. Here is what went into lockdown.

Under the broody: 5 Legbar x Mauve Orpington rooster crosses. and 1 choc cuckoo x mauve orpington rooster.

I brought the broody in last night because of the storm threat. She was fine at night but abandoned her eggs as soon as the sunlight hit the sunroom. So after fiddling around for 2 hrs with hr in different settings, she finally accepting a spot in the corner inside a dog cage and covered by a towel. Hopefully she doesn't do the same tomorrow. I heard cheeping so chicks have pipped inside at least so it won't be good for them to stay uncovered.

BTW I am not keeping any of these (unless I fall in love of course) so if someone is interested please message me

In the 7 Egg Brinsea Incubator:

4 eggs from mauve x choc orpington cross
2 eggs from mauve x cuckoo orprington cross
1 pure Legbar

all are due on Friday

In the cheap malfuncationing incubator:

2 eggs from Mauve x Mottled Cross due on Tuesday the 19th
3 eggs from Mauve x Mottled Cross due July 29th-July 31st

I will have plenty of chicks available from the incubator eggs as well. Let me know if anyone is interested.

This is my last hatch of the year. My mauve rooster is gone so no more chicks except for the chocolate mottled coming in October sometime.

Wow! Thank you everyone for all the well wishes. Our 19th anniversary was a peaceful, relaxing night (except for some occasional peeping). Adult conversation, good food, terrific company, & not having to prepare, cut up, serve, clean spills, & do dishes! Exactly what I wanted. We knew each other for 9 years before getting married, so it's not like we rushed in to anything.

So here's what hatched:
a lav & a black orp (just put those under the broody to keep her sitting so she could foster these chicks)
4 Dominique-Orps (2 female/2male)
4 CLs (2 female/2male) - can't tell if they will develop crests or not.
2 black CCL-Orps ( 1 female/1 male)
some Junibutt orps - not sure of genders yet

And our very happy broody with over a doz chicks under her.. She may not look very happy because she has been going after our CCL & vice versa. Both got some good pecks in, so both have scabs on their combs.

Broody fever has hit hard over here, I have 3 broody Orps and 5 broody bantams for a total of 8 broody hens taking up 5 nesting boxes, 3 bantams in one box and a bantam and orp sharing another. Although yesterday evening I went to lock up and 2 of my huge SL orps where squeezed inside 1 nesting box. I thought 1 was dead cause the other was on its head, but when I went to pick her up, she let me know she was alive. I wish my SL cockerels were old enough for breeding.

Here are 2 of my own Orps from my last hatch that I kept. The only SL with nice lacing, and now waiting for the new cockerels to mature and love the lacing on the blue also.

All the birds in the pen the eggs came from have decent sized crest, so I suspect the babies will as well...

Day 19 just started for me. Opened the incubator to add water and lock-down and to my surprise, had an egg with an external pip and big crack in the egg. Since my flash-light was on already, I saw that its pipped from the wrong end. So probably did not have any air to breathe and cracked the egg open to do so. What should I do with it? I think its too early to help it out but at the same token it will shrink wrap if there is no intervention.

Any suggestions?

I have hatched probably dozens of 'breach' eggs and almost all of them have hatched, but some do need intervention... I wait at least 24 hours after the pip and if no progress is made, I will then open up the pip a little bit and tap on the egg trying to encourage the chick to get a move on it... If after a few more hours of no progress then I slowly assist the hatch as long as the blood is out of the membrane... If the pip is large and you see it drying out, I fold up a paper towel with one corner not folded in and wet it with warm water, then set it next to the egg and lay the unfolded corner on the membrane a bit, the membrane will then wick water slowly out of the paper towel and get soft again without drowning the chick...

If you look at my picture of the 'breach' pipped egg a few post above, you will see that I cut about a 1/2" ring out of a toilet paper roll to use as a cradle for the egg, this allows me to position the pip top dead center so that no fluids left in the egg block the breached hole, can't say if it's necessary but it works for me...
