:barnie:rant:hit Dog had a big bloated TICK :sick
it's 47 f why are there TICKS now
Hope your pup's OK. Thanks for the head's up. I guess I had better find the Frontline. With our crazy curious dog who knows what trouble he'll get into next.

I've seen a few random bugs about.... and yes it feels much too early. I actually had to buy worms a couple weeks ago because the ground was too frozen to dig. (for some sci classes)

I thought they had moved out to the garage

We are all getting a little tired of house chickens. They were sort of out in the garage, but then broody mama had to hatch her babies in there and they stayed until today once we finally got a ramp for the spitzie coop. I'm still trying to scour Facebook marketplace and craigslist for a little coop like yours for the "useless" chickens, but so far no luck. But since mom and babies are out, Jasper and Phoenix might be moving back in!

Perchance have you had another peek at the spitzie eggs?:D

All 6 Spitz eggs had veins. Although I didn't see veins in any of the brown eggs, none were glowing brightly. I'm a bit nervous I could end up with 2 doz chicks - and right before the school chicks start hatching. I honestly thought I'd have about 6 clears. I guess the trims and separation into breeding groups really helped fertility.

He's pretty easy to please. He wants a free downloadable video game and to eat breakfast for all 3 meals.

Last night DS asked me for a "penguin cake." Here's my idea for a penguin cake with the supplies I had on hand:

It's choc cake with a ganache glaze to make it look smooth. I used scissors to cut marshmallows since I didn't want to make another frosting..... and marshmallows are one of his fav sweets. DS was happy & said that it looked just like a penguin before I even decorated it.

:yesss:

Well another of my white cx mix breeding hens bit the dust, :hitfound her in the nest box all purple :sick.. usually that means a heart condition. I did not open her up and look though.
I have plenty more but she was one of "Dinners" daughters. I had hope the orp blood could help with the early death issues I am having.. she wasn't even a year old.... :barnie

I think it was a birthday sucess.
Here's after the candles were blown out. A very happy boy.

He started liking penguins around age 2/3. He has a penguin toy collection, wrote various penguin stories & research reports, and still thinks they're amazing. I figured he'd grow out of it, but now he wants to go to Antarctica. (He likes winter, so who knows.)
