Illinois...

Are they edible plums?
Eatable and delicious indeed.

Last year we had a late frost, which left me with NO fruit. Year prior, we had an abundance. I do not spray or anything of that sort. Those that do get bugs in them naturally, will fall off before they reach ripeness.
If you were closer, I would drop off a plant for you to have. :)

How do you keep the animals from eating the plums? We have a mysterious fruit tree thief. In a single night/day (before they're ripe), our apple & pear trees lose every piece of fruit. No nibbles. No cores. Just gone.

The squirrels do get some of them,,,,,,,, but I don't mind sharing when there is plenty for all. They will usually go for those on the ground already. I don't take those of the ground,,,,, I pick off the tree:thumbsup

I am by rt 80 and when I asked my neighbors if the chickens bothered them, they said what chickens LOL

My neighbor behind us he would rather here the chickens then the dogs around us at 5 in the morning, so I have him eggs LOL. How many do you have and what breeds I think I’m pushing the limit, according to our counselman who lives down the street they mirrored Naperville ordnance. I was kinda surprised “ Naperville “.
