Some poults

DH is very sick and the lawn has gotten beyond what I can handle. (We only did the front to avoid being "fined" for not maintaining our property. Yes, it's a real thing. There's a lady employed by the village, who drives around and writes citations for not bringing in trash cans, mowing lawns, etc.)

Anyway, DS went out back to play with the chickens & sat in the grass. I couldn't see him or any chickens. YIKES! I called one of my former students over and paid him to mow it today. At least some problems are easy to fix.

Meanwhile poor DH is feeling very overwhelmed (mentally) and very sick physically. We all have the same cold. The kids got over it in a couple days. I was knocked into bed for 2 days & then it feels manageable like a reg cold. Not healthy, but not completely sick. DH has been tired with a cold since May 16th. He's been focused on client work, so the home chores have been skipped due to lack of energy. Today he's in bed. Please say a prayer for his recovery.

Glad you have some healthy poults, and I hope you're able to sell some. That black hen looks nice. Is she one of your meatbird projects? How does she do in the heat?

My 3 poults are doing fine. They pretty much think they're chickens. The white 2 are very, very friendly. The brown is more skittish, smaller, but pretty.

20 orp eggs. 5 were collected 3 weeks ago, 5 two weeks ago, 5 one week ago and 5 yesterday. I have 22 spots left so they will be filled with spitzie eggs tonight and serama-silkies tomorrow evening. 42 incubating eggs. In 3 weeks I'll be in trouble if they all develop! And that's not including the8 that will hatch next week...or the 4 ducklings and two ccl that are already here...... I told Faraday I might be bringing chicks for her to sell!!:lau

We went to Farm and Fleet today to get chicken feed and dog food. I saw they were still selling chicks so I sold over to the troughs full of chicks not really intending to buy some. Them I saw ducklings... We came home with 3. The troughs were tagged incorrectly and multiple tags on each. I was told they are Rouen ducks. They look about right based on google images... We have a koi pond (and a frog pond to since the first bad storm this spring when frogs decided to relocate to our pond after their home likely flooded). I plan to let the ducks have access to the pond with an indoor space in the shed coop sectioned off for them. For now they are in the brooder area with our lone chick. The chick and ducklings were afraid of each other at first, but they warmed up to once another within minutes. I have checked on them several times and they seem to be getting along.

@BReeder! Ohhhh! I lOVE that frog pond.

Thanks for the heads up warning about chicks at Farm and Fleet. I almost went there yesterday. Now I know to prep myself for the temptation.
:he It is supposed to be a koi pond. The frogs have stolen the show. Back to poultry... The ducklings seem to be following the chick around. The chick is 4 weeks old (I think) and the ducklings are just 2 or 3 days old. Tge think the chick is momma. :lau And the chick is just as confused as it is happy to have some pals.
