2 nd year in a row, same turkey hen has been a bad mother. :rant then she tried to take another hens poults.
This year she left her 4 two days old poults and went out partying. 40f ... found 2 crying by the unhatched eggs, one by the door crying and one in-between that I was sure was dead. I stuffed them all in my shirt while I set up and warmed up a dog cage brooder. About a half-hour I put them in the brooder, gave the almost dead one some nutidrench. He seems to be recovering... I will put him and his sibling with another hen tommorow.
The other 2 I texted someone that was on my list for 2 poults and they came today
Wow! Close call. Maybe you should invite her for Thanksgiving this year.

@Molpet
I had a white poult die today. I think it may have been the herniated navel chick. Not sure why. Under the down, it looked like its stomach was bruised. My hatch was about half white poults and half brown. For some reason my orps are actually bigger & heavier than the poults (from same hatch). I know the orps really like their food.

Aww.. bet it was the belly button
I had a chick like that, it blew out about 2 weeks.
well you had plenty is the only good thing.

So far I have had 2 white and 8 brown poults.

I should have plenty of jakes to invite for dinner. I will trade her or sell her with full disclosure that she is a party animal bearded lady. :lau

Forgot to mention I took a shot at a coyote that was looking at the poultry.
Found someone with lgd puppies that will be ready in June. Didn't see coyotes too much when the dog was around.

Max was a St Bernard/Newfoundland ... I like big dogs and the coyotes don't
Nice looking pups. I want a new pup. The last rescue dog we had didn't work out for us. I would much rather raise a dog from a pup. I'm not looking for such a large dog though. I'm hoping to get another bulldog, perhaps a small french bulldog even.

I'm down a chicken. Last night at dusk we discovered my Brahma, Clover, missing. No sign of her anywhere, I suspected that coyote that's been nabbing my neighbors chickens. It's a very short window where she must have been grabbed, I was out with them for most of the afternoon. She's not a great loss, she was a hatchery chicken, not a great layer and pretty cruel to her underlings. Oddly enough my senior citizen blind swedish flower hen lives on.

My rooster is 10. He has survived two dog attacks and keeps on going. I will be sad when he goes even though I haven’t gotten fertile eggs from him in a few years. He is the best “security system” I could ever have for my free range flock. He alerts and the hens all head for cover. Love that guy.
