Illinois...

So sad. Were they males or females? My turkeys are usually the culprits who do the pecking. They're curious and not very bright..... which can be a bad combo. How many turkeys do you have left?
The ones who passed were females I think, but still fairly young (this year's hatch I picked up from your house). I have one more young one and the two adult turkey hens (Supper and Dinner).

Sadly I think carjackings are on the rise in general. Two weeks ago there was an armed carjacking at the Standard Market (grocery store) near us. It was very brazen of the thieves to carry a gun and steal the car from someone in a busy parking lot in the middle of the afternoon.
I wonder if they would bother with my car?
I wonder what the car of choice is now.

That particular carjacking was some type of SUV owned by a person in Hinsdale.

I doubt my 11 year old hyundai would be of much interest to anyone. However, it's still very scary to think someone would steal a car at a grocery store at gunpoint in the afternoon.

I'm still raising my chicks with a hands off approach. I have supplied starter grower but have not designated it for them. It is in chick feeders. Still feeding chickens layer feed. Chicks getting a mixture of the 2.
Mostly they free range.... not out of design, but because they just run right through the chain link lol. This is one of the things I am going to interfere in. The chicks will be roaming by themselves without rooster protection.
So far all 8 are still doing good.

I also tried a new approach with my rooster being aggressive. He started to be aggressive after DW sister kicked him. I would hold him and tuck his head under my arm and pet him and he would calm down but that only lasted that visit. I recently decided to let him have at it. He pecked my shoe a few times and drop kicked my leg then pecked shoes a couple more times. Then he looked like he got bored and went away. Next couple visits were similar. Then he stopped all together. If he starts doing the potty dance I just stop for a few seconds then slowly proceed.
A week or 2 now with no attacks. The baby is a different story completely but I'm going to have DD give this a shot.
