Well I goofed and left a coop open. Thought everyone one was ok until I seen a black body between a shed and a fence. head and neck intact, belly ripped open and guts missing. Punctures in breasts thighs and one drumstick, I took the good drumstick. A little over a year old half dark Cornish hen. There's 5 birds in that coop that are lame or old it could have taken....no has to take one of the best. Went by a trap to get there. I will put the carcass in a trap and see what I get. Thinking opossum, coons are usually messier, raptor would have started at neck. No feathers in the coop, at the body or in-between.
And this afternoon I found a 2 year old white hen with her neck picked clean.
Thinking this was a hawk. Rigor was just setting in. I think she's from the same coop. This coop has plenty of hens but.... Another good hen. So disgusted I didn't even see if the legs were good. She was out in the sun anyway.
I used to like watching the raptors. Good thing I have way too many birds. I was thinking I need to cut down. How's that for making lemonade lol
