Turkey with her "chick"

Rudy is in lockdown for being a prick to the hens. This guy needs about 8-9 hens because he sure does have plenty of testosterone. Luckily they are cold hardy. Wind break and a roof, doesn't bother him at all not being in the coop.

Put him in with the guineas today. So far he isn't harassing any of them.
Rudy must be a bit confused. I hope his hormones calm down with age and maturity. My old hens are great for putting young cockerels in their place.

Before, I once had an EE cockerel that couldn't be satisfied by 8 hens. My poor hens had bald backs even with saddles. I don't think he could go 15 min without mating or chasing a female. He also crowed non-stop, so we found him a home. My next roo was a very mello black orpington.

Guineas! I would love to get them, but they are extra noisy. One day when I have a few acres they are on the list along with goats, more chickens, a rooster, more ducks, and a breeding flock of turkeys. One day (far away :( )...

Your Orpington hens are like the female rugby team of chickens though. :gig

He actually used to be pretty mellow until about six weeks ago. Going to give him one last chance before I give him away.

Although the Orps are big and intimidating, it's the little Sebright who rules the roost. I've seen that 2lb bird attack full-sized roosters and turkeys - and win. She's very, very vocal, so she does give them fair warning. When broody = Look Out! She crows to announce her presence and the flock gives her plenty of space.

.... There's a reason she's named: "Trouble"
