Sorry for your loss. Would you like to get a necropsy done by your state vet to find the cause of death? The body would need to be refrigerated. Air sacculitis is a complication of respiratory diseases in chickens. Since chickens have very different respiratory systems than humans do, they don't always have the same diseases, such as pneumonia per se. I'll go with the nurse and the vet. If she is going to die then it won't matter if I give antibiotics or not. My little girls name is Red also

I'm sorry you lost your bird.

Giving antibiotics will matter if you plan on getting an necropsy to see why it died because the antibiotics will skew the results.

Many people here on the emergency forum are registered nurses, physicians, PA's, vets or vet techs. Most people don't advertise it. Others have had chickens for many years, and know more about them than some vets, including avian vets. Chicken Canoe is correct that antibiotics can affect culture testing of certain bacterial or mycoplasmal diseases. Many of us will try anything to help a chicken, including antibiotics, to save a dying pet bird. Others feel more strongly about not using antibiotics so as not to promote antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
