I'm a real man now, they are in the fridge.

It's been awhile since I hatched and raised any of my own. I hatched and raised some Buff Orpingtons (my parent stock is from a breeder) 2 years ago. Very, very tasty birds, especially the dark meat, but it took almost 24 weeks to get them in the 4-5 pound(dressed) range. I did a few at 20 weeks, but they weren't as meaty as I would have liked.

Anyway, congrats on your new found skill. If you're going to do DP's, I would suggest finding a plucker for them. If you think plucking the CX was bad, the DP's are much worse, especially all the pin feathers.

Numbers as follows:
10 birds @ $1.10/ea= $11.77 with tax
135 lbs broiler feed (Heinold), $12/bag plus tax 34.66
Total costs $46.43

8 birds made it to the end---$46.43/8 birds=$5.80 per bird
Right around 5.9/lb avg--all at 7/weeks(seemed like little turkeys after only 7 weeks) 16.8 lbs of feed each=$.98/pound

I thought that seemed good, but I really have nothing to compare that to. Good price on the feed.

Wow that does sound good to me too and congrats on doing your first batch.
