I'm afraid to go to tractor supply

I had the same problem last night. Went into TSC to get some watering nipples That's all! My plan was to keep no more than 5 pullets this year. I am just returning to chicken keeping after many years and wanted to keep cost and maintainance down. I originally ordered 5 Production Black chicks(basically a barred leghorn) from a locally owned feed store. 1 didn't make upon arrival to the feed store and ended up with 4. No problem...wanted to keep it small anyway, right?
Wrong. TSC had Red sex link and Leghorn pullets for 50 cents each. They had about 50 leghorns and 75 Sex Links all about a.week old. I couldn't pass up a deal like that could I? I have never seen pullets that cheap. I came home with 2 white leghorns and 4 sex links to add to my "small flock". I plan to give some of them to a neighbor down the street who already keeps birds. We live in a rural area on a family farm so finding someone to take the extras wouldn't be difficult. That's how I rationalized the purchase. However, I did check with the neighbor before biting the bullet. But 6 pullets for the price of one? Darn you, TSC! BTW, ours had grayish looking silkies this week too...99 cents. They just called it assorted bantams but I knew what they were. Not a silky kind of guy so I passed on those.

I've got 16 peepers in brooders, 8 meaties in a grow out pen, a chicken tractor almost finished, and a coop expansion getting ready to begin. I know I'm safe from buying more chicks.... maybe.

No seriously. If I do, I'm in trouble because things will get crowded for a while.

First time chicken owner. Made the mistake of going to TSC for dog food on an emotional day.... they had $1 chicks - I stopped and stared... wondered around.... always coming back to the chicks - I bought 12 with no clue what I as doing....

Came home - set the brooder box up... read through this site for hours and then tried to figure out what I was gonna say to hubs when he opened the garage and found a trough with 12 cute fluffy chicks in it.

Well that went over well - and it only escalated from there. I realized I needed meat chicks so I ordered 20 from Meyer hatchery.... and then there were 32

Then my son came home and asked if he was allowed to bring a chick home from school that they had through ag - and then there were 33

Then I went to Atwood's - and that was a huge mistake.... so I bolted for the door - and there were still 33.

But I had to go to TSC to get Hydraulic fluid for the tractor. And they had chicks too... and then this guy says the TSC in the next town over has 25c chicks - and well.... a quick 15 min drive and 17 baby chicks later ....

We now have 50 chicks..... and I am not allowed to go to TSC anymore...
Sounds like chick AA for you!

I'm not going back until chick days are over!     I can't be trusted.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one with this problem! We ordered ten layers of 3 breeds and 20 layers of rangers and cross through our local store who orders one extra of each just in case. When we picked them all up 2 crosses had died and a third was ill so we kept all the extras and I happily trudged them home in a tote (I came prepared lol.).
So, 17 meats and 13 layers 3 weeks later are dusting up my hobby room (closet, pantry, storage, etc) and my wife is livid! Pine shavings getting tracked all over the house and there are now 2 smelly totes I clean out twice a day and replace waters 5 times a day.
Naturally, I stopped to buy more chicken food one day and conned my wife into picking out 2 layers -cause Americanaus are so pretty and she can name them!
Ugh every store visit my wife and teenage son check the car before we even leave the parking lot to make sure I haven't packed away a few more chicks..if we weren't having company in a month for his high school graduation I wouldn't hesitate to buy more but I'm afraid next year I'll have no self control.

Might be a blessing in disguise. Unless you have no chicks right now.

that's a scary thought.
