I'm afraid to take away the paper towels !!!

If you keep them on paper towels too long they start to tear it apart. The savings are much cleaner, until the shavings dust gets everywhere.

I've noticed a tremendous improvement in the smell since I changed my barred rocks over to the shavings. I'm using Aspen also. I am definitely (maybe) changing my silkies over to shavings next week.

Thanks for your response.

Yeah, I don't look forward to the dust. I wonder if there's such a thing as dustless shavings.

I think my biggest fear about the shavings is having my silkies on them. They're so tiny and I guess I'm worried that it wouldn't take much to "plug up" their crops. I changed my barred rocks over a couple of days ago and they're doing great.

Thanks for your help !

My chicks that arrived this morning are on pine shavings, as was my last flock.
When the commerical broiler houses get 30,000 chicks in at a time they don't put paper towels down, trust me.

I'm just paranoid since we had one to die a week ago and I want them to get a little bigger . What a wuss, huh?

It must be the fact that this is my first experience with baby chickens. I'm being overly cautious, I know, but I cain't hep it !
