Been there, done that. I'm so sorry you had this experience, there isn't much a person can say to make you feel better but that many of us understand and hope the other eggs hatch into beautiful, healthy babies.

I've given up past day 24 on a batch. Cracking them open to see what their demise might have been, I found one with a live chick inside. Don't give up. There will be more...

"oh no, when it cracked open i did see the chick. but the egg was just dark befor i dropped it ("

I currently have my first group of eggs and have 28/30 that are doing great on day 10! I candle almost every day without a problem (so far). I too have had a really really hard time candling the green eggs. The shells are much thicker. I basically have found that my small bright LED flashlight works but I have to rotate the egg and place the light JUST SO to get to see the blood vessels. If I focus on the blood vessels long enough, I am usually able to see some type of movement in there now. It is REALLY hard to see them. This is a pic of a duck egg but my chicken eggs looked the same at about 4-5 days.

I hope this helps you. I am so sorry for your loss

I had to throw out 2 of mine tonight because they had the red ring inside and were obviously not developing.

I have the same fear every time I take my hen out and the eggs roll underneath her (she doesn't leave the nest on her own) . She cracked one egg but I left it there in the hope that it will hatch.

I have a bantam hen on 6 eggs (day 14), and one egg has a small crack with a small black opening to it (the size of a dot). Nothing comes out of it, and it looks like it has an egg shell skin that keeps it sealed. It's been like that for 3 days. Do you think I should try to put some wax on it, or should I leave it alone?

I'm so sorry that happened! We have been raising chickens for a little over a year and have made many mistakes. Through mistakes we learn and know how to do things better the next time.
