I'm crying myself a river here-is it my fault?

OK, my DH is a painter and we are on hard times. He is also working a part time job as a pizza guy to help make ends meet. I'm a stay at home mom who is trying to get a pt job at nights b/c we also homeschool.
So, with that said, I broke the washer and now I feel terrible!!!! To make matters worse I am leaving in a week to Oregon with the kids with my mom and I can't cancel.
I overfilled the washer last night and water went everywhere. I figured that I just overtaxed it and everything would be fine today. I took a bunch of the clothes out and tried repeatedly to get the washer to drain and it just won't. Do you think it's my fault or do you think the thing was just really old? I feel terrible

It's probably just old...
but it may also have sucked something into the outflow house...like a sock...

I REALLY hope so!!! I am going to ask my DH to check fo rthat. Is that easily fixed?

Do you know how to take off the covering and check the hoses and the pump?
We have had to repair ours for the same thing twice...bf thought he could wash an over stuffed king sized comforter in there...both times!
The pumps are like $30. Not bad but if you're broke its a fortune, I know!

When you go to check the hoses and pump have a bucket and towels on hand, water is going to make a mess!

You might be able to find a video tutorial of it online. Its easy.

What part of Oregon are you coming to?

I do know that often on Craigslist you can get a decent washing machine for very little money. My friend just sold hers for 50 bucks on Craigslist and it was in excellent condition, she is moving and the new house has a set....anyway, it's an option...

Hopefully yours is repairable, they often are. Mine stopped working and it was because of a paper clip that got jammed. The repair guy didn't even charge me.

Mercury is retrograde, in case you follow that kind of thing, so I don't think it was necessarily YOUR fault. I have a tendency to be hard on machinery too, so I can sympathize. The timing sucks, though. I hope you can get it fixed easily or you mysteriously fall into some money . . . where's that tax rebate check when you need it?

What bum luck. If you were here I would give you a washer. I have one in my out building that we are not using like brand new.

I know this doesn't help you now. I have been there with no money, homeschooling and had to wash clothes by hand. Not fun.

On DMs suggestion you might also try FreeCycle in your area. Just go to their website and search for the group in your area.

It's probably fixable. If it's not look in you local advertiser. We got a free washer and dryer that were older then heck but still worked and we had them for 3 year until we could afford to upgrade. I thought I killed my "new" (used but new to me) washer by over stuffing it.

If your DH is handy it won't be a problem. Pumps are easy to switch out. However, I know when times are hard everything that goes wrong is 100 times worse than it should be.
