We do the Samartian's Purse shoe boxes as a family, the kids sunday school classes and our 4-H club.
Through 4-H we make Christmas cards for Friends of the troops.
Last year through 4-H there was a county wide project where we made stuffed animals and donated them to the EMS, Fire, Police, and hospital for kids that were involved in any situation they would be involved.
New this year we are making parachutes for Voice of the Maryters(sp?). It is for a missionary in Columbia who flys over guerilla camps (the bad guys) and parachutes Bibles, and other materials to help soften and change their hearts. We are doing this through our 4-H club.
We , as a family, donate toys, small furniture stuff, and clothes to a church in our area that does free clothes once a week. The kids are always glad to give their toy to a new home that needs it.
We, as a family, volunteer weekly at CRI, Christian Resource International. This organization takes donations of christian litature, processes it and sends to around the world to english speaking countries. Our job is to package 4# and 11# boxes. People write in requesting items for their home, church, and community. 4# packages are a Bible and Bible study materials. 11# above mentioned and other resources for them (ex.: dictionary, theology, commentaries, history, etc.) My children really enjoy this and so do I.
We make donations to people we know going on missionary trips or other fundraising for church camp and such.
We are going to make donations through Samartian's Purse (I'm going to check out Heifer too) for animals this year for our family gifts. Everyone has too many toys and it's hard to buy for the adults!
this year for my daughter's 10 birthday we had a unique party. Instead of gifts, her friends brought money to purchase food for our local food pantry. So the kids showed up and ate dinner, then we went to
Walmart and purchased the food, and delivered it to the food pantry. The kids bought 62 pounds of food.
My girls (3 of them) are working on spool knitting baby hats for our local pregnancy help clinic. I also donated baby stuff to them as we outgrew them.
OK after writing this all down, I didn't realize how much community service projects we do. I am humbled that we have the time and energy to help out in these ways.
