Well I just ordered a tolouse pullet from ideal poultry along with 4 japanese bantams. I'm planning making her a house pet. I'm so excited. Does anyone have any advice for me? The starter diaper pack from The goose's mother and father seems like a good deal but I have to wait and see if I can order it. I have a few questions. ...

Geese make great pets. I have 2 (they get lonely if there is just 1, since they're flock animals.) and they live outside (geese need to graze [grass] for 90% of their diet). I did not have to clear it with my neighbors since I live in a semi-rural area. If your neighbors are pretty close, you must research to find a "generally quiet" breed of goose (mine are a loud breed).

Geese can live in small backyards. Make sure you also provide them with a protective housing (some ideas) since they are prey animals.
Also wanted to mention, when you get two geese, they dont have to be a male/female pair - geese are ok if they're paired with the same gender for company.

(just so you can get an idea of the amount of time that you would be committing yourself to. I agree that there are people who successfully have a house goose, but understand that these people have extraordinary circumstances that not everyone has, i.e, they work from home, or are retired)

I would suggest not ruling geese out entirely, BUT its not like if you dont get a pair of geese right now, you wont be able to get some later

I would wait until your situation improves and in the meantime, spend A LOT of time researching about geese. Spending an hour talking to experts is not enough - but its a start!! Step #2 for you is to read through the goose forum. Seriously. When I joined BYC there were about 90-something pages and I read through all of them (sure I skipped a few threads that were about the same topic) but man, was it worth it.
Lucky for you, more people have asked good questions for you to read, so you'll be more knowledgeable!!!

Well what do you suggest I do with her when she arrives then, smarty? It's not abuse if this many people are doing it and the geese are healthy and alert. They bond with your whole family and friends and they become their social network. They imprint and believe they are people. Thus they want to be around people.

I took forever to write my response & saw you posted this in the meantime.

You're right about some things: they do bond with your family (um, but your friends, not so much!).
Mine are imprinted with me, but believe they are geese.
And absolutely right: They do want to be around people, when we're outside.

I cancelled the order. She'll probably end up as some childs play thing or someones dinner now. I came here for advice and you went against me.

Good for you! Cancelling the order was a smart thing - ultimately best for you, and that goose. You sound like someone who DOES genuinely care about animals, and educating yourself more about geese will make you a great goose owner in the future
