Im getting battery hens!

Awww man I wish I was on the East coast right now! I'd take about 5 of them and know of alot of folks around here who would take more. MN is a long ways away from PA

i heard from the rescue and it looked real good until they told me where the closest pick up was from me.4 1/2 hours 1 way.i really wanted to help but thats just to long of a drive..

I would love to help! Although right now we have too many chickens and not enough space...But I'm currently trying to convince my mother and stepfather to get a few hens just for eggs. We're Vegetarians and against the whole commercial meat/egg industry. I think it's just horrible how those poor battery hens are treated and would love to take some in! They sure do deserve it after all the unpleasant service that they gave, rather than letting them be killed and eaten. I believe they deserve to live the rest of their lives in peace after all they've been through. It's probable that not all can be saved, but at least the lucky ones will not have the same dreadful fate as the rest.
But as I said, I would love to help, and I will show my mother this and ask her about it...It depends on what she says from there.

We're doing the whole gardening and greenhouse thing so chickens would be a great asset to it all! And what would be better than to get some free chickens that we can love and care for (and since we're Vegetarians, you can guarantee they won't be eaten!) rather than going and buying some from a hatchery? That way we can help out at the same time.

I will let you know what happens.

Hopefully, since my mother hates how the battery hens are treated and I've mentioned we should get some chickens, she will warm up to the idea and we can help save some of those poor hens and give them the respect and happily-lived life they deserve!

Also, does it have to be an actual farm? If my mother ever said yes, it would just be a small backyard flock with a coop and free ranging, not an actual huge barn area.

We would want to get 3-5 maybe. Again, I need to show this to her first! Hoping she will say yes! After all, we do have the time and space needed I think and it would be free and it would be helping out some of those poor hens!
