Hello all...

Anyone waiting on the hen rescue out of PA of those 16,000 hens... there is an update on our website... please check there for updates www.promisinghope.com

Also, we are having a Chicken/Duck/Peafowl seminar on May 16th at the sanctuary, free to the public... please see website for directions to sanctuary!

Chicken / Duck / Peafowl Seminar

Sunday May 16, 2010 1:00PM - 2:00PM (Rain Date May 23, 2010)

Seminar given by: Alex Macdonald (MA Dept of Agriculture )

You will receive general care information, feeding, housing, bird health, and any questions you may have answered. What subject would your questions be about? Please email me at www.promisinghope2u@aol.com or call me at 508-866-2501. We'll get those questions answered for you so you can have them in writing and can refer back.

Any one involved with the Hen Rescue out of PA will benefit from attending this seminar - we will talk about adding hens into an already established flock, what the NPIP program can mean to you and "what we should know, that we don't know".

Bring your own chairs!

Please let me know if your coming....

Thank you,
Michelle Rogers - Founder

I'd be interested too, but I dont understand, does the update on your website mean that this farmer guy has a choice of either giving up the hens to good homes or sending them for slaughter?

Ugh that is SO frustrating!!!

Bless you for your good work helping animals.

I would love to help! Although right now we have too many chickens and not enough space...But I'm currently trying to convince my mother and stepfather to get a few hens just for eggs. We're Vegetarians and against the whole commercial meat/egg industry. I think it's just horrible how those poor battery hens are treated and would love to take some in! They sure do deserve it after all the unpleasant service that they gave, rather than letting them be killed and eaten. I believe they deserve to live the rest of their lives in peace after all they've been through. It's probable that not all can be saved, but at least the lucky ones will not have the same dreadful fate as the rest.
But as I said, I would love to help, and I will show my mother this and ask her about it...It depends on what she says from there.

We're doing the whole gardening and greenhouse thing so chickens would be a great asset to it all! And what would be better than to get some free chickens that we can love and care for (and since we're Vegetarians, you can guarantee they won't be eaten!) rather than going and buying some from a hatchery? That way we can help out at the same time.

I will let you know what happens.

Hopefully, since my mother hates how the battery hens are treated and I've mentioned we should get some chickens, she will warm up to the idea and we can help save some of those poor hens and give them the respect and happily-lived life they deserve!

They're still available, right?

Miss Red- I believe they stated earlier that shipping is only available to people on the east coast. Sorry!

Also, does it have to be an actual farm? If my mother ever said yes, it would just be a small backyard flock with a coop and free ranging, not an actual huge barn area.

We would want to get 3-5 maybe. Again, I need to show this to her first! Hoping she will say yes! After all, we do have the time and space needed I think and it would be free and it would be helping out some of those poor hens!
