I'm getting the itch. Anyone want to hatch some eggs?

Me too!!! So far so good with baby broody momma

I just went out and collected 21 eggs from the nesting boxes...in looking them over, 3 I wont use for hatching, but I wandered into the spare room where the incubator still remains, unplugged and empty...I plugged it in...you know, just to see if it will still hold a steady temp...

Well from what I understand, you REALLY can' t tell if it TRULY holds a steady temp unless there are fertile eggs in it

I dunno, just what I heard

Hubby gave me the green light last night, waiting for him to get home to confirm all is well if I do...

I found my broody off the nest, wandering with the rest of the flock, and the eggs were cold. She got back on the nest when I brought the flock in. Hope they're alright.

Its only day three... Its ok, they can withstand a bit of a fluctuation, I find my broodys off the nest more in the first two weeks, then hardly at all that last week, she knows what she is doing, now if she were off all day and roosting at night I would be concerned, it doesn't take long for the outside of the shell to cool off, but the temp is still ok inside.. Trust her for now..

I plugged in the auto turner and darn if its acting up... Not really wanting the hassle of hand turning... I had someone buy hatching eggs from me today and may be interested in some chicks if the itch hits me hard enough...lol... Why oh why do I do this to myself!! ")

LOL!!!! I have an auto turner but actually prefer to hand turn because I am one of those weirdos that does not trust it! Just look at it this way...handturning provides quality interaction with your eggs many times a day

Is there a way to get dried poop off the broody's eggs without removing the bloom as well? They weren't dirty when I stuck them under her.
