I'm getting the itch. Anyone want to hatch some eggs?

Did the 10 day candle last night on the eggs set into the incubator.. Out of the 20 eggs sat 12 have made the cut, 1 was removed on the third day, (noticed a crack I didn't see until I lit it up with the flashlight) 1 blood ring, 3 double yolkers and 3 clears. I also have a broody sitting on 6 eggs ( It was 8 but she kicked two out of the nest, one was clear and the other had a tiny embryo but was a quitter)

So a dozen in the bator and the broody sitting on 6... I may have a buyer for half of the chicks in the incubator as soon as they hatch and the rest I am going to try and give to the hen.. We shall see how it goes for the next 11 days

Very sad...my broody Peeps baby died

I have no idea what happened. Last night, mom and baby were great...baby was eating and drinking. The only thing I did not see was baby poop but since my broody was caring for her I wasn't really looking. Now my hen is soooooo lost. I cleared the nest and broody area completely although I od think she realized baby died because she went outside to dust and hasn't done that since the day before baby hatched. Saddest day ever and watching my girl is just breaking my heart!

Oh noooo.... I am so sorry, I had that happen with the first broody and the third, we think the babies got positioned under the hen wrong and were squished...

Don't you have some ready to hatch? Maybe she will adopt them??

In lockdown now so I guess I will know by Monday latest. Tried to get her moving out and about but she just sits and makes her little clucking noise

Personally , and not from experience but I would try and let her keep sitting until you know for sure if your going to get a hatch.. Even if only one survives... My heart goes out to you, I know, I've lost chicks to many times to count, its the downside of raising these addictive creatures!

I though of placing the 2 bator eggs under her...I was worried that she would keep sitting without a hatch making this already bad situation worse. I got these eggs for her to hatch and raise because she kept going broody. I was excited that the one hatched because then she had a baby to raise and that was all we were hoping for her. I have never dealt with a broody hatching, let alone one that lost her only chick after 5 days

Oh, I am so sorry :(. She was being such a good mama! I hope you can try giving her the bator eggs. It might take her focus off her loss.

Only egg out of the six was the mystery bantam egg. Does anybody have a guess what this chick might be? It has feathered legs and...blackish skin, I think.
